Iris Literature and Arts Magazine Submission Guidelines
General:
Submissions will be accepted through our email, jmu.irismagazine@gmail.com.
We accept multiple submissions per person within and across genres, but each must be submitted in separate email threads based on genre (prose, poetry, or art).
We welcome submissions from those who have been previously published in Iris.
We consider previously published work.
We ask that you include any relevant content warnings.
We require the title of your piece, your full name, a phone number, and your JMU email with each submission.
Iris has an anonymized evaluation process, including for submissions from members of the Iris staff, which we welcome.
Iris does not retain publication rights, nor offer financial compensation to artists and authors.
Iris does not accept fanwork, including fanfiction or fan art.
Prose:
We require work to be double spaced and in Times New Roman 12 point font unless manipulation of fonts and/or spacing is important to the piece.
We do not have a strict word count limit for prose; however, works over 5,000 words must be extraordinary.
We will accept 3 pieces or fewer per author.
Please submit prose pieces in separate documents per piece in a single email.
We will accept PDF files only.
Poetry:
We count series or sequences of poems as 1 submission.
We accept 5 poems or fewer per poet, totaling no more than 10 pages.
Please submit poems in a single document in a single email.
We will accept PDF files only.
Art:
We require that you indicate the medium of your piece (ex. oil painting, digital print, etc).
We require scans of art and photography; we will not accept photographs of physical pieces.
We accept 5 art pieces or fewer.
We accept 10 photographs or fewer.
Please submit art and photography in separate files in a single email.
We accept PDF and JPEG files only.
